The GED (General Educational Development) tests were developed by the American Council on Education to enable students who lack regular high school diplomas to demonstrate they have the basic academic skills of a high school graduate.
What are the GED tests?
They are a battery of five tests designed to measure the major concepts associated with four years of high school education. Successful completion of the GED test will earn you a STATE OF FLORIDA HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA, which could open doors to jobs, promotions, college, and many other opportunities.
The subject areas and time limits covered are:
- MATHEMATICS (1HR. 30 MIN.)
- LANGUAGE ARTS/WRITING/ESSAY (2 HRS.)
- SCIENCE (1 HR. 20 MIN.)
- SOCIAL STUDIES (1 HR. 10 MIN.)
- READING (1 HR. 5 MIN.)

GED Preparation Program
The GED Prep program includes computerized diagnostic testing and preparation classes, which are offered in self-paced on-campus classes, or online.

DAYTIME ON-CAMPUS PROGRAM
Diagnostic testing is offered every Monday and twice a month on Wednesdays at 8:15 A.M. Students should first check in at the reception desk. Seating in the testing room itself is available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Call (239) 377-0900 to verify test dates.
Adult Daytime Program (ages 21 and over)
There are several entry periods per semester for the adult daytime class. Adult students who wish to attend daytime preparation classes will need to attend a two-part orientation following diagnostic testing. Ask the tester for the latest orientation schedule.
Class hours are 8:00 A.M. - 2:15 P.M., Monday- Friday
Youth Daytime Program (ages 16-20)
For students ages 16-17: Youth under 18 years old wishing to enroll must first attend a Parent/Teacher Conference along with their parent/guardian. Each student will need to bring his/her Florida driver’s license, Florida ID, or current passport.
Available August through May, Parent/Teacher Conferences for the day program are held on Thursdays at 2:15 P.M. or Wednesdays at 7:30 A.M. No appointment is necessary. Check in at the reception desk upon arrival.
Class hours are 8:30 A.M. -2:15 P. M., Monday-Friday

EVENING ON-CAMPUS PROGRAM
Parent/Teacher conferences (for students ages 16-17) are available Tuesday-Thursday between 6:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M.
GED Diagnostic testing is offered every Monday and Wednesday (except holidays). Arrive at the reception desk by 5:15 P.M. Seating in the testing room is available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

HOW TO APPLY FOR THE GED TESTS
Persons planning to take the GED tests must register in at the MLK Administration Center between 8 A.M.- 11 A.M. or 1 P.M.- 3 P.M., Monday – Friday.
The fee is $70 for the complete battery or $14 for each individual test. Testing fees may be paid for in cash or check made payable to Collier County Public Schools. You must have a valid Florida identification card, driver’s license, or government issued identification. In addition you will need to bring your social security card.
